If you are looking for the computer to run your favorite games, then the most important components that you have to consider are the asus graphics cards. These are easily the most expensive and most critical part of the machine especially when you are concerned with the performance of your PC when you are running a game on it. It is incumbent upon you to ascertain that you have the appropriate graphics cards that are compatible to asus motherboards.

These graphics cards can come in two types, the PCI Express and the AGP. The AGP cards would need the motherboard that has the compatible AGP slot. The majority of the motherboards that are sold today can accommodate either a PCI or an AGP graphics cards. However, there are some motherboards that do not have slots for AGP.

The other thing that one should consider when deciding on the type of graphic card to use is the speed of the graphics cards. Your card has to have a certain speed in order to run. The current speed range of AGP cards is from 1X to a high of 8X. If you have the later versions of graphics cards, check if it would require an AGP Pro. If this is so make sure that your motherboard supports this requirement of your graphics card. AGP Pro is a feature commonly found in the more powerful types of AGP graphics cards particularly those that run on varying voltages. In which case, it is practical if you have the Universal AGP slots as this can accommodate all types of AGP Pros.

The PCI Express is the more recent version of graphics cards that is expected to be the replacement of the older AGP cards. PCI Express is entirely different from the PCI bus. PCI Express operates on serial data system while PCI bus is defined as a parallel system. In most instances, the PCI Express 16x is used primarily because graphic cards would need a higher bandwidth than any other components of the computer. This only means that this type of graphics cards would deliver 16 times more bandwidth by providing 16 channels for the graphics card to operate on.

Ascertaining the compatibility of the graphics card and your motherboard is not a straightforward procedure as it is difficult to confirm if your motherboard can really accommodate the graphics card that you have bought. In some cases, you will be experiencing glitches in your system while trying out a particular combination of your motherboard and specific types of graphics card. You may also have to install a different driver and patches to work around problems in running a program.

You may check out the troubleshooting instructions from the website of the manufacturer and see how you can resolve problems in your system that involves the compatibility of your motherboard with the graphics card that you have bought. These sites can give you valuable information with regard to major and common compatibility issues which normally delves on the hardware of the computer.
