How could a company discern itself from its competing firms?

Published

on

By developing its support services and creating reduced prices. Obviously, presently, both options need advancement in Information Technology and Communication (ITC) systems which are challenging for that competition to copy.

The obstacle includes aligning the financial commitment on the ITCs with business goals, although the concern is that companies won’t often tend to be clear when defining their guidelines. Lots of Agencies don’t possess a unique corporate system. Therefore Information and Communication Technologies are requested to be aligned with something that doesn’t exist.

When those distinct features of the business are unearthed, it is possible to establish the primary corporate goals that set up the distinguishing feature. At this moment this is doable to establish how the ITCs can get involved in this strategy and increase the significance of expenditure.

Thus it is essential to define a corporate methodology to scale it towards the Information and Communication Technologies. The long-term way-out is to align the company in one goal. In every day lifetime, the ITCs department should give emphasis towards most powerful strategy and so on.

Change of trend

Typically, small agencies prefer to delay until methods are consolidated prior to using them. But, this phenomenon is being enquired in the supposition that industry is experiencing a transformation on a technical basis. The positioning of the agencies about the use of modern technologies is also transforming when these advantages are clear or deliver competitive advantages. Consequently, some businesses choose to be a reference pertaining to the adoption of Information and Communication Technologies within its arena.

Numerous western nations are strongly dedicated to innovation or at the least hold their-own investment- also during times of uncertainty; but Spain hasn’t adopted this style at all. The research named The Spanish Science, Technology and Innovation System 2013 Indicators -conducted by the Spanish Observatory R&D&I (ICON) of Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT)- shows the normal of the sources directed at R&D by the European Union in those countries of OECD during the period 2000-2011 that was 10.7%. Germany and France with 13.3%; United Kingdom with 11.3% was above the usual, in comparison to 9.3% of Spain, which reduces the average of the EU.

Also read:

Following the situation of Spain, the Innovation Survey inside the Agencies shows the details of the statistics on Activities in R&D within the year 2011. Internal expenditure on Research and development lowered 2.8%; the expenditure on Technological Innovation also lowered 8.8% in 2011, compared to 2010.

Numerous small economical enhancements that point to a sluggish macroeconomic change and inertia towards expenditure have appeared in Spain. Yet this progress is dependent upon the cost management tradition and on the initiatives to supply an added value towards the business. Thus a better atmosphere of trust will be produced and this is when the inclusion of strategic investments from the Information and Communication Technologies will be capable to revitalize the domestic industry.

What We Learned From new episodes of peacemaker

Headlines continue to abound about the data breach at Facebook.

Totally different than the site hackings where credit card information was just stolen at major retailers, the company in question, Cambridge Analytica, did have the right to actually use this data.

Unfortunately they used this information without permission and in a manner that was overtly deceptive to both Facebook users and Facebook itself.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has vowed to make changes to prevent these types of information misuse from happening in the future, but it appears many of those tweaks will be made internally.

Individual users and businesses still need to take their own steps to ensure their information remains as protected and secure as possible.

For individuals the process to enhance online protection is fairly simple. This can range from leaving sites such as Facebook altogether, to avoiding so-called free game and quiz sites where you are required to provide access to your information and that of your friends.

A separate approach is to employ different accounts. One could be used for access to important financial sites. A second one and others could be used for social media pages. Using a variety of accounts can create more work, but it adds additional layers to keep an infiltrator away from your key data.

Businesses on the other hand need an approach that is more comprehensive. While nearly all employ firewalls, access control lists, encryption of accounts, and more to prevent a hack, many companies fail to maintain the framework that leads to data.

One example is a company that employs user accounts with rules that force changes to passwords regularly, but are lax in changing their infrastructure device credentials for firewalls, routers or switch passwords. In fact, many of these, never change.

Those employing web data services should also alter their passwords. A username and password or an API key are required for access them which are created when the application is built, but again is rarely changed. A former staff member who knows the API security key for their credit card processing gateway, could access that data even if they were no longer employed at that business.

Things can get even worse. Many large businesses utilize additional firms to assist in application development. In this scenario, the software is copied to the additional firms’ servers and may contain the same API keys or username/password combinations that are used in the production application. Since most are rarely changed, a disgruntled worker at a third party firm now has access to all the information they need to grab the data.

Moby Dick by Herman Melville

Published

on

By

I did not begin the two hundred thousand words plus of Moby Dick expecting to be surprised. Herman Melville’s book has been on my reading list shelf for years, always an intended read but never opened. Its iconic status has always proved too much of a barrier to its starting. The motivation eventually came, however, from a particularly moving production of Benjamin Brittten’s opera Billy Budd, itself based on a Herman Melville story, that prompted a decision to start Moby Dick, the whale sized book about whaling, and I had a whale of a time. A copy of Billy Budd, incidentally, was not to hand at the time. This must be remedied.

The bare whalebones of Moby Dick are very simply arranged. The story is told by Ishmael, who is seeking work as a sailor. Paradoxically, perhaps, we learn very little about Ishmael. It seems he is cast almost like some detached observer, able to discern the motives of others, but usually unable to declare his own feelings. He is, however, undeniably a character, not a mere vehicle for a writer’s declamation.

In Nantucket, Ishmael befriends Queequeg, a fellow sailor, who is ethnically and religiously different from himself. They soon share a room and even a bed. How the cultural difference and the male camaraderie are described is one of the more memorable aspects of this thought-provoking book. Both men are recruited onto the Pequod, a whaler under the command of the initially anonymous and even mysterious captain Ahab. Ostensibly, they are joining a factory ship on a standard mission to harvest whales for the extraction of profit via oil. The source of the profit and the means of realising it may run counter to our current assumptions, but the capitalist nature of the activity remains central to our contemporary interactions.

Once on board, however, they, along with the rest of the crew, discover that their now revealed captain has been all but destroyed in an encounter with a vast animal called a white whale and that their ship, the Pequod, is embarking upon a mission to extract vengeance. Captain Ahab is intent, nay single-mindedly obsessed with hunting down his attacker and repaying its compliment. A simple irony about Ahab is that having lost his leg in his encounter with Moby Dick, he now supports himself on a false leg made of whalebone, tapered at the base so it locks in a deck socket for stability. Thus anchored, supported by the very material he seeks to destroy, he surveys the sea for evidence of his prey. He does find his goal and pursues it for three days. Ishmael lives to tell the tale. But those particular events are more than one hundred and thirty chapters in the reader’s future after first encountering Ishmael seeking work in Nantucket.

In Moby Dick Herman Melville places us firmly in the middle of the nineteenth century. Modern readers must bear in mind that assumptions will be challenged by what has changed in the intervening decades. This was an age before electricity, before mass travel, before immediate communication over distance. But it was also an age when the industrial exploitation of the earth’s resources, animal as well as mineral, was not just under way, but was seen as an essential and desired end that might provide employment, generate wealth and benefit human life. As readers today, we must therefore attempt, for that is all we can do, to relieve ourselves of our novel positions on the activity the book describes. This was an era when killing whales for extraction of profit was quite normal, if, for most people, still a distant, dangerous, even fabulous activity. Reading a whodunnit does not indicate acceptance of murder, so exposure to Moby Dick does not imply support of whaling. And making this required mental shift will unlock the tremendous power, immediacy and indeed wisdom of this masterpiece.

That whaling happened, that a large industry grew up and was sustained by the activity and that people lived the life that it demanded is indisputable. Like all history, we are never condemned to repeat it, but we are also reminded that, though we remain free to reinterpret it, we are powerless to change it. And this book, almost like no other, is replete with the whaling experience which is now so foreign to us. We do, via Herman Melville’s magnificent narrative, enter into that world, that pursuance of life and death, and the experience is not for the faint hearted.

But what is most surprising about Herman Melville’s Moby Dick is its form, or indeed its lack of it. The effect is strikingly modern, in that the novel is not presented as a linear narrative. Instead, Moby Dick presents facts about whales, descriptions of the whaling process, details of its contemporary setting and, above all, portraits of the characters who populate the Pequod and are pressed into partnering Ahab’s mission. In some ways, Moby Dick presents a total experience of a microcosm, often so focused it does its subject literally to death, but in other ways so lacking in focus that a reader can profitably dig in and out of the book almost at random.

And despite the location of the subject matter in a particular time, some of its themes are also relevant to our contemporary society. For example, through Ishmael’s narrative Herman Melville addresses the question of what kind of animal the whale might be. He is aware of Linnaeus and the modern concept of species. He is aware of the evidence that whales, unlike fish, give birth and suckle their young with mother’s milk. The Bible, however, describes Jonah’s encounter as being definitively with a fish, and so that is that, and thus the question is unarguably answered. The whale has to be a fish, since God may not be contradicted. What more perfect example of fact-ignoring fake news or conspiracy theory could one imagine?

Ahab, certainly, is a tyrant, but he is perhaps not the totalitarian dictator that some interpretations demand. He is driven by a personal mission and recruits others, perhaps by deceit, perhaps by stealth, to further his ends. Now a flawed human being, he uses the able bodies of his recruits to pursue his ends and rise above his own limitations. But though he does conduct his pursuit on his own terms in his own autocratic way, eventually he leads his own chase, his personal vendetta and tunnel vision relieving him of his better judgment, whereas a modern dictator would have the exit strategy ready before any risk might be considered. Essentially, Ahab is the ultimate politician who recruits unquestioning and loyal followers who become part owners of individual drive. And then, like any politician who needs to exert pressure, he calls upon his followers to amplify himself, albeit unsuccessfully. All political careers, we are told, end in failure.

Overall, once the paradigm shift in the reader’s assumption is made, Melville’s Moby Dick presents a thoroughly modern and therefore a thoroughly surprising experience. The subject matter may not be fashionable today, but then it reminds us that today’s preoccupations and assumed values might soon themselves appear both pointless and, indeed, repulsive.

New Book Tells Tale of Cleveland Boy Who Overcame Obstacles to Play in the NFL

Published

on

By

Move over Rudy-Dr. Kenneth Polke is here to tell his own inspiring story of overcoming obstacles to play in the NFL in his new book Conquering Your Adversities.

In this hybrid of a memoir and a self-help book, Dr. Polke shares his inspiring journey, from growing up on the Mafia-ridden streets of Cleveland in the 1950s and going to a Catholic boys school to watching the nation erupt in violence during the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War, seeing his neighborhood of Collinwood become known as Bomb City, USA, and all the while, staying focused on walking the straight and narrow path that would lead him to his dream of playing in the NFL.

I’m not a football fan, but I always love a good rags-to-riches or dream-come-true story and every page of this book is full of both. One thing I really enjoyed about Conquering Your Adversities is that Dr. Polke contrasted his personal stories with keeping a pulse on what was happening outside his private sphere-in his city and in the nation. As a result, the book was filled with nostalgia about America’s best days in the decades following World War II, as well as some of its most turbulent times. At the heart of the story is the Polke family. Dr. Polke describes growing up in a small house in Collinwood with his brother and little sister and later a baby sister. His father read to them and educated them on everything from sports to the Mafia. When his mother was not busy caring for the family, she was working her hands raw at the Jergens factory to make sure they had everything they needed. Dr. Polke’s parents were hardworking middle class people who upheld the Ozzie and Harriet values of the 1950s and instilled them in their children, providing them with strength and a moral code to follow when temptation came their way.

And temptation was all around Dr. Polke as a child. His parents sent him to Catholic school to keep him out of the troublesome public schools, but even when surrounded by nuns, he couldn’t help getting himself into trouble-stealing communion wine from the church. But far worse, the streets of his neighborhood were controlled by the Mafia, and while Dr. Polke never had direct dealings with them, he was always conscious of them being in his neighborhood; he often had to take cues from his father about how to react to different situations, whom to be friendly with, and whom to avoid.

Foremost among the Mafia figures in the neighborhood was Danny Greene, who would later be the subject of the film Kill the Irishman. Dr. Polke had one memorable run-in with Greene when he was a child-a positive one, fortunately, that allowed him to understand why Greene was venerated as a type of Robin Hood in his community, although he also knew Greene’s choices were ultimately a mistake.

When things got rough, Dr. Polke always managed to persevere, but the temptation was ever there to take the easy way to success. When he did not have a lot of money or when his dreams didn’t seem like they were going to come true, Dr. Polke occasionally would see rich guys drive by in fancy cars with beautiful babes, and then he would realize that he could be enjoying that lifestyle if he wanted to join organized crime. Instead, he chose sports-specifically football-as his way out.

Dr. Polke’s football career is impressive. He may not be a household name today, but he went a lot farther than most who dream of playing professionally. He tells us stories of great moments on the football field in high school. We feel butterflies in our stomachs along with him when he meets with recruiters from different colleges, and ultimately, we feel like falling off our chairs in shock when he finally gets that magical call. I don’t want to ruin all the suspense, but I will say that Polke ended up playing for two different NFL teams.

And then, in the end, he walked away from football for something better…

You’ll have to read the rest of Dr. Polke’s story for yourself, not just to know what happened to him-but to discover what can happen to you. Each chapter of Conquering Your Adversities ends with a series of challenging questions to make readers reflect upon Dr. Polke’s story, think about similar challenges they’ve faced, and figure out how to overcome them. In the end, this book becomes a blueprint for readers to follow their own dreams and achieve success despite any obstacles that stand in their way.

If you want to be inspired, if you love history, if you’re from Cleveland, if you love football-heck, if you’re a human being, you’ll love this book because you’ll relate to it and it will help you to conquer your own adversities. There are plenty of self-help books out there, but few can help as much as exploring how someone else overcame difficulties and taking inspiration from his personal story-and Dr. Polke delivers all the way.

A Deeper Understanding of Jesus and His Teachings

Published

on

By

Ever since I read and edited Messages from Jesus by my wife, Mary Ann Johnston, I’ve been reading parts of it from time to time, each time contemplating and understanding more fully the wisdom in Jesus’ words. In this book, in omnipresent Spirit, he answers her questions about his life 2,000 years ago, his teachings, and how one should live in today’s world. His answers shed light on many of the truths he had hinted at through parables and metaphor, and he tells us how to apply these truths in everyday life.

Jesus often spoke of the kingdom of God. He said it is like treasure hidden in a field, and it is within us. Now, in Mary Ann’s books and books by others who have been able to commune with him and receive his messages, he explains the nature of this blissful, inner “kingdom”: eternal life, omnipresent awareness, peace, love, light and power, helps us to understand oneness and many other spiritual realities, tells us about certain aspects of his ministry, and gives us much truth, hope and guidance for our times.

Also, after 40 years of meditation, Levi Dowling, the author of the Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ, was able to connect with the Holy Spirit and perceive Its vibratory, akashic records-the “Book of Life”-and thus write the story of the life of Jesus Christ. In the Aquarian Gospel there are many inspiring accounts of Jesus’ conversations with great sages and holy people when, from the age of 13 to 30, 17 years not mentioned in the New Testament, he travelled and lived in India, Tibet, and other countries.

We are living at a time when the belief that Jesus was the only “Son of God” can be seen to be untrue. There were other Christs-Krishna and Buddha, for example-and there will be more, for as Jesus said, we are gods, and whoever believes in him will also do the works he did and even greater things. It may take many lifetimes but eventually every one of us will believe in him, in other words, experience the universal, loving Christ Consciousness in Jesus, which through self-effort, purity, and the blessing of God the Father, was made manifest in him. And, like him, we will manifest It in our life. Many yogis and saints have experienced the peace, love, light and bliss of this omniscient, omnipresent consciousness (God the Son), and even if we are unaware of It, It is in us.

What Is Jesus Doing Right Now?

Published

on

By

What is Jesus doing right now? Does the Bible provide an answer to that question? I believe it does. According to Scripture, here is what Jesus is doing right now.

Jesus is building his church.
He said so. “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). Jesus is sending me and you into the world to proclaim the gospel so that people repent, believe in him, and become disciples who in turn share the truth with those who are perishing. The end result is that the body of Christ continues to grow, both spiritually and numerically, by the empowering work of the Holy Spirit, for the glory of God the Father.

Jesus is praying for his church.
He said so. “I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours” (John 17:9). And so did Paul. “Christ Jesus is the one who died-more than that, who was raised-who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us” (Romans 8:34).

This is a most amazing fact: every day, the Creator of the universe prays for me and for you. Doesn’t that take your breath away?

When Jesus prays for us, do you have any idea what he prays about, specifically? Again, Scripture gives us the answer.

On the night he was betrayed, Jesus prayed this prayer to the Father: “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17).

To “sanctify” means to make holy, or, to make us more like Jesus. And we are sanctified “in” or “by” the truth of God’s Word. No one becomes like Jesus without the teaching and life-changing power of the Word of God. Without the Word, we cannot be transformed into the likeness of Christ. With it, God can and does change us from the inside out to be a “little Christ” (the meaning of the word “Christian”).

Therefore, for the genuine Christian, reading, studying and understanding the Bible is not optional. It is essential to our sanctification.

I hope you see the awesomeness of these two truths: Jesus is building his church, and Jesus is praying for your sanctification. And we get to be a part of this supernatural work of God, the greatest building project the world has ever known.

It’s amazing to me, just amazing. Thinking about it overwhelms me. I get caught up in the wonder of God’s greatness and I get so excited, I hardly know what to do with myself.

So I sit down at the computer and tell you about it. That, too, is a blessing beyond my comprehension. I am so glad to be here to watch it happen. To see Jesus building his church and sanctifying his people is just incredible to me. How about you?

Looking for more Bible study tips.
