About For all mankind:

For All Mankind is a new show from National Geographic that premieres on October 5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT with back-to-back episodes before settling into its regular timeslot of Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT starting October 12. The show follows astronaut twins Scott and Mark Kelly as they go about their lives on Earth in two very different ways: one at home with his family in Arizona, while his brother is up in space for more than a year aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Next season will follow both brothers and one particular astronaut: Josh Cassava. He’s an active Air Force test pilot who beat out 19,000 other applicants to become NASA’s latest class of astronauts.

This next season will document what it takes to make it through the intense training regimen and preparation necessary to make it into space eventually. This is just what we know so far, though there may be additional details still coming our way between now and when for all mankind season 3 returns in November 2018 on National Geographic Channel. But you can rest assured that if there are any updates we don’t have yet, we’ll keep you posted right here! In the meantime, stay tuned to see how Season 2 wraps up when it concludes Monday at 10 p.m.

How many seasons does For All Mankind have?

There have been two seasons of For All Mankind since it first debuted on TLC in 2015. They were aired from January until March 2016, while season three was ready to come out. It is unclear how many episodes there will be in season three or if another will air. The series follows Russell Roberts and his wife Kala as they travel around America with their kids, exploring different places of historical significance and meeting people who played a role in these locations or events.

For example, viewers watch them visit President Barack Obama’s childhood home in one episode. In another episode, they spend time at Pearl Harbor before embarking on a journey through Hawaii, looking at Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. Unfortunately for fans of the Roberts family’s travels through history, for all mankind season 3 has yet to announce when exactly its third season will premiere or even if it has already begun filming new episodes.

It is for all mankind based on a true story:

The show isn’t based on a true story, but it certainly highlights some of NASA’s most outstanding achievements. In addition to underscoring astronauts’ triumphs, For All Mankind also gives us insight into some of NASA’s lesser-known experiments that didn’t quite pan out. For example, in one episode, you see astronauts training with a VR technology that they planned on using in space but was ultimately deemed useless. Yet even though their plan didn’t work out as intended, watching them experiment with the technology is still fascinating because you get an up-close look at what it takes for humans to perform tasks in space.

For example, while testing out how to use virtual reality equipment in zero gravity, we see astronaut Bruce McCandless accidentally float away from his rope while attached to a 300-pound gas tank (think: chain of hand grenades. I mean, imagine. The’s tethered; his feet are off the ground. Thankfully he lands safely). This type of footage is interesting enough on its own, but it also shows how meticulous these astronauts have to be during tests. There’s no room for error when your survival depends on equipment working correctly.
