Set the Trumpet to thy mouth: Hosea 8:1is a book written by Pastor David Wilkerson founder of World Challenge Inc, and published by his ministries in 1985.This book is a wakeup call for church. This book along with his other best seller the Vision, gave David Wilkerson the nickname of “the watchman.”

The first thing that stood out to me was that the introduction written by one of my favorite authors Leonard Ravenhill. This really shouldn’t have been a big surprise since David and Leonard were good friends. The introduction is perhaps one of the best that I have read him and he must have really liked the message between the pages.
The Art of set thy trumpet to thy mouth
Now we come to the art work, which has a watchman not blowing the trumpet but a Shofar, which is a rams horn and blown like a trumpet. The cover design has an ominous look about it by purpose since this book is all about calling the Church of Christ to wake up. The cover also has a 1970’s style design and a very short synopsis which was the trend in the 80’s.

Pros
- Set the trumpet to thy mouth is a fast pace call to wake up the church type of book. It is written for the later day church (that’s us folks.) Even though it isn’t as a prophetic book as the Vision, almost every chapter will keep you turning pages for more.
- Look at the church at large today, and you will find many of the topics that have been laid out in this book that is threatening the church into apostasy today. Things like: Adultery, fornication, divorce drugs abuse, and same sex marriage.
- Watching YouTube today, you will see many prophets proclaiming things that have not come to pass as they have said. You know who these prophets are that I am talking about without me mentioning names. The author has a chapter totally devoted to such self proclaimed prophets. In this book he will tell you and show you by scripture what you should watch out for.
Cons
- The top con that comes to mind is that this book is out of print and hard to find. You’ll be lucky to find it at a used book store and if you do find a copy it will more than likely be well used if not in worse condition. Finding acceptable copies online will normally cost between fifteen to ninety five dollars.
- One chapter titled “Music of devils in Gods house,” is one of the longest chapters in the book and talks about rock music and its effects on teenagers and young adults. It almost gets into what I would term legalism and probably would be considered legalism by most people younger than me today. This chapter runs over 30 pages long with subheadings that way you can stop reading and start praying.
- This is going to be a hard book for many to read. Not that it is hard to read, but that it is going to challenge what you believe. This book was published in 1985 before the internet was even born. If you ever get a chance to read this book when it comes to the television just add smart phone, internet and social media to the equation.
Conclusion
The author has prophesied the destruction of America if the church doesn’t wake up; I do believe though that the events happening right now could be leading up to the destruction of this great Nation. David Wilkerson believes that the U.S. will be the first nation to be judged simply because this nation has had the light of the gospel and as salt delivered the truth of Christ to the entire world. If you read Isaiah chapter three you will find how God judges a nation. I see all the things happening today that God takes from a nation as a part of his judgment.

This book was intended for evangelical Christians and the church as clear Trumpet warning from one of Gods servants and Watchman on the tower, for the sleeping church, things that will soon take place and is taking place today.
